PhD Program in Public Administration
The School of Public Administration at the University of Victoria invites applicants to its PhD program. The PhD in public administration is designed for students looking to achieve an in-depth academic understanding of issues in comparative policy and governance, organizational studies, and applied policy and program analysis. The program prepares students to conduct leading-edge research and take on leadership roles in government, universities and other public institutions. (See http://publicadmin.uvic.ca/programs/graduate/phd/phd.php#section0-0).
The Canada School of Public Service's Students Providing Aligned Research and Knowledge (SPARK) Program
Students Providing Aligned Research and Knowledge (SPARK), a new pilot initiative being offered by the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) as a complement to its existing university-related activities. Its two main objectives are to:
- Better align the intellectual capacities of students and professors in academia with Public Service research needs; and
- Provide high-performing students the possibility of being considered for future positions in the federal Public Service.
Under this initiative, selected graduate students will work from their campus location, be paid for research projects in their field of study, gain knowledge and experience addressing practical, real-life issues, and can potentially be hired into an indeterminate position upon graduation. If a student wishes to receive course credit for their work, the student may submit their SPARK research as a term paper. In this case, a number of requirements must be met
- the student must be enrolled in a course that is scheduled concurrently with their employment under SPARK;
- the research being conducting under SPARK must be of applicable subject matter; and
- the course professor and the hiring organization must be aware of and in agreement with the arrangement.
